Medical Marijuana Facts

Marijuana has been used to treat various illnesses for thousand and thousands of years. Nevertheless, many people are only aware of the debate of its use as a prohibited drug. Here are some very interesting facts about marijuana or cannabis. Marijuana is known to be the most common illegal drug in the US. About 100 million Americans have tried it at least once and over 25 million have smoked cannabis in the last year. Some more facts about cannabis are the following:
1. Based on a report, it will take 800 marijuana joints to kill a person, but the death cause would be carbon monoxide poisoning.
2. The plant can grow in almost any environment and will average from one to two inches growth everyday and up to eighteen feet when in ideal condition.
3. The seeds of the plant were used as a source of food in China as far back as 6000 BC. The first recorded use of it happened n 2737 BC by Shen Nung, a Chinese emperor and proved that it is effective in treating rheumatism and gout pain.
4. In the 1890s, it was commonly recommended as alcohol substitute. The reason is that using it does not lead to domestic violence compared to alcohol.
5. In October of 1937, the first US citizen arrested for selling marijuana was Samuel Caldwell. He was fined $1,000 and sentenced to 4 years of hard labor.
